NY Street Food

Link to this post

NY has some interesting Street Food, I’ve heard of stories where people line up around the block for good food.

I just found out there is a Vendy Award for NY Street Food. The Finalists were:

  • 45th & 6av - Kwik Meal
  • 30th & Broadway in Queens
  • 96th & Broadway Super Taco
  • French St & Pine St
  • Washington Square South & Sullivan St - Indian Crepes

I’ll need to check these out sometime.

Photo Lessons

Link to this post

I was discussing with my flat-mate who is the recent owner of his first SLR camera a photo technique called The Rule of Thirds. The Wikipedia article has a great example photo to describe it well.

This weeks travels

Link to this post

This week I’ve been in Boston. On Saturday my drive home included Plymouth and Cape Cod. I didn’t know that Plymouth was founded by the Pilgrims in December 1620.

More to say, just no time right now to say it. Photos here

What is your life’s purpose?

Link to this post

Diary: 3rd September 2007

Just by chance today, I turned on the TV my flat mates away for the Labor Day long weekend. I got to see “Croc hunter Remembered: One Year Later”. This is a memorial to Steve Erwin who died Sept 4, 2006.

He had incredible enthusiasm. Doing exactly what he loved, and we were along for the ride. He was a Life long animal advocate, and focussed on the need for environmental preservation. His life’s passion is available at Wildlife Warriors.

What are you passionate about? I must admit it was very emotional for me watching the show. What is your life’s purpose? What are you doing about it?

It reminds me of a very important quote I learned some 15 years ago. “Is what you are doing now, or about to do currently moving you toward your goals.” Helps to clarify those goals first!.

Moments in History that define mankind

Link to this post

There are moments in history that define mankind. Happy ones like the invention of the wheel, the invention of electricity and light, the discovery of penicillin.
There are also not happy ones and one of those is September 11, 2001 or 9-11. This point in time has shaped our future forever in my view. Think Afghanistan, Iraq, WMD, the war on terror, air travel, and all that is yet to happen that will be attributed to this event.

I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when it happened. It was 10:15pm in Brisbane, Australia, I was watching The West Wing, when Jim Waley (a senior news presenter in Australia), presented an emergency breaking news. The World Trade Center tower was on fire. What happened in the subsequent hours I watched live on television. I even have it the original news all still on video tape.

I now live in close proximity, I catch a train to the World Trade Center site in New York, and it travels around inside the present hole in the ground where you can view everything. It’s the closest view you can get of the location. Today is the 6th anniversary, and on the news tonight at 10pm I heard they had lights to represent the towers. It took no time to grab my camera and tripod, and call a taxi. The lights are so powerful I could see them from our second floor balcony, the NY skyline not visible here.

It was one of the most significant and striking images I’ve seen this year. My passion is night photography and this was a location, event and situation that I could quite easily never see again. More photos available here.

The first image is from Exchange Place in Jersey City, the second from Hoboken both on the New Jersey side. Detailed Map here.

My Sunflower 10.09.07

Link to this post

My Sunflower

Yellow
She makes me smile.
She draws the best in me,
to be more then who I am.

She is trusting, caring and loving.
She is intelligent, compassionate and sweet.

Green
Planted in life, she is set for greatness
For life is the journey to experience.
My commitment to my Sunflower is to stand tall.
To listen, to encourage to support,
would be a privilege for my Sunflower.

Black
She has beauty that radiates from within.
I cannot describe the joy,
of the time just spent, and a lifetime I hope to forefill.

She is my Sunflower.
She is my Sunflower.
