Penn station 10.26.07

Craziness.
People everywhere.
Peak hour departures.
Masses moving around.
Masses waiting, boards idle.
Masses standing, bags in hand,
Phones, PDAs, iPods.
Blank looks everywhere, people waiting.

Boards change. Masses move.
Foyer clears, but just briefly,
more masses move.

People everywhere.
Masses waiting.
Masses waiting.

Saké Signatures. 10.20.07

Saké Signatures. 10.20.07

Streets.
Canal, Spring, Lafayette,
Houston, and Bond.
Wanderings of East Village,
new places abound,
company with, timeless.

Opportunities at every spot,
theater, art, apartment blocks.
Shops and restaurants,
a full life abundant
in just a few blocks.

Down and around,
away from view.
A Blade Runner image,
three of us,
sitting at the bar,
Sake on the menu.

Saké.
Nigori Saké (Crazy Milk).
Chilled, with texture.
Suigeu.
Warmer, unique but again a little bland.
Ikaruga.
Warmer still, fuller body it is.
Saké, a new drink I like?
The jury out, more still to try.

Signatures,
a portrait of our soul.
Our identity unique,
Our own.

Signatures,
Expressed to us in words.
Our being explained,
Both good and bad,
reaching into our character.

Driving,
getting lost, but not.
Friends ever present,
advice a plenty.
125th. Is it to far?
Only kidding among friends.

Another day,
with friends to be always.
Another something new.

Colors 10.18.07

Colors 10.18.07

Green, blue, black, white, all around.
Red, yellow, brown, grey, all around.

The sky is blue, the sea is blue, why?

We see colors, we choose colors
We like colors, we don’t like colors, why?

Fall leaves, a color.
From green, to orange, to yellow,
to red, to brown, why?

Lights wonderful spectrum, hidden from view.
Light exposed, a rainbow of joy.
An awe and wonder, just add water.

Light is color, light changes color.
Our eyes see, shadows, bright light,
low light change what our eyes see.

Tungsten light, ultraviolet light,
black light, all change our colors, why?

Sunlight, moonlight, starlight.

Animals, land, air and sea.
Show their colors, some changing,
some blend in, hidden, some glow.

People show their colors.
Clothes, hair, skin both natural and not, Why?

Colors, they are everywhere.
We all see them, colors.

Airports 10.15.07

Link to this post

Airports 10.15.07

Planes, trains & automobiles all in one place.
People, children, luggage all scurry around,
like ants on an anthill.
Clouds from below.

The roar of engines, the smell of fuel.
The power, the speed, then ground not needed, space below.

Flying at altitude,
Sunrise lasts longer.
Sunset lasts longer.
Clouds from above.
Lights as far as the eye can see.
Blue, Blue sky. Peace, distance, space.

Planes, trains & automobiles below,
like ants on an anthill.

Cosmonauts look down, from space above.
Planes can be seen, like ants on an anthill.
I long for space, a view of above and below.

Our planet, the galaxy.
A speck of dust on an anthill.

Terminals A,B,C here.
Terminals 1,2,3 there.
My life includes airports,
like one includes shops for food.

Airports with shopping malls
From Harley Davidson to iPod vending machines.

I can’t avoid airports.
The security, the delays,
the walking around without shoes,
as they pass you by into a dark place.

I like airports,
I don’t like airports. It depends.

Take offs, landing, taxing, waiting, holding.
Just parts of airports.

Height gives perspective,
a view not otherwise seen.
Shadows, we could never see full size.
Patterns in trees, places, roads.
Nature’s pattern in rivers, mountains and beaches.

Clouds all around us.
Then whiteness, nothing to see.

We live with airports,
we could not live without them.
Friends & Family far away,
new places and opportunity.
Airports,
I need in my Life’s Short Adventure.

(: Smiles :) 10.10.07

(: Smiles :) 10.10.07

What makes me smile?
Natures beauty of land, water and sky.
Sunsets the lights the heavens.
Mountain ranges that touches the clouds.
Golden beaches and clear blue sea.

What makes me smile?
An expanse of flowers as far as the eye can see.
Of tulips, canola or beautiful sunflowers.
Or just one, given to me.

What makes me smile?
Puppies you wish would never grow up.
Emperor penguins and polar bears.
Honking, only Canadian Geese can give.

What makes me smile?
A beautiful women dressed in style.
Of God’s creation made just for me, maybe.
The little black dress makes me smile :) :)

What makes me smile?
The touch of another, showing love unconditionally.
Of family that defines our identity, whether good or bad.
Of the company of friends, of one or many.

What makes me smile?
Of mans creation, 100 years or more.
Of discovery and invention for all to benefit.
Of the power of thought to create and express to thee.

What makes me smile?
Of life lived full with no regrets.
Of getting up, after falling down.
Of love lost, but not forgotten.

What makes me smile?
Of sport, both played and watched.
Of competition that will never end.
Of blood, sweat and tears.

What makes me smile?
Generosity given unconditionally.
From opening a door,
a smile, to gifts of necessity.
Only thanks need reply.

But what is dear to me?
The remembrance of great company with another.
Something I will never forget,
brings a tear of joy to my eye,
and a smile I cannot hide.

Ban the Backquote

Link to this post

I really don’t like the backquote character (`). This is primarily due to it’s use by MySQL in internal and community tools.
MySQL allows objects, .e.g table names, column names etc to contain both reserved words and spaces, providing they are appropriately surrounded by backquotes, so tools now simply enclose everything with backquotes. Really annoying.

Last week while on a client site I was told a funny story. The CEO of a company bought an iPhone however was unable to use it at work due to the WEP key for the Wireless access in his organization includes a backquote. I’ve confirmed it, the iPhone keyboard does not have a backquote key. So now, because he is the CEO, everybody will have to change their Wireless WEP key just because of the iPhone.

But it gets better. Around midnight last Saturday between Slate Plus (for Dinner & Pool) and going down to SOHO for more drinks, Farhan had to change a cron job. As his battery was running low, he was trying to find it, you guessed it, the backquote character on his OQO. Just lucky it’s Windoze and if you can find the character map application, you can insert the character.
Rob and Michelle were on hand, and with my new EOS 40D and 50mm 1.4f lens I was able to take a series of photos without flash and without alerting my unsuspecting subjects.

Haiku 10.13.07

Admiring the park.
Grass green, sky blue. where are you?
Coldness arriving now.

Sitting in the park.
Falling leaves sparkle in light
Winter will come soon.

Thinking of you now
Brings such joy and a smile
Life never the same.

The cold has now come.
Ice, wind, snow to soon show here.
Life changes pace again.

Your touch is missed.
Your smile lights up my day.
Your company life’s joy.

Leaving now, time to go.
My joy to be here with me.
Your warmth dims coldness.

A Blank canvas 10.11.07

Link to this post

A blank canvas will come to life.

Each day draws a new page.
For one gift has but a single initial joy.

Each day a new gift awaits.
Patience I trust will injure,

but no loss should patience no last,
for joy I trust will remain for ever more.

Images that will appeal your eyes,
and words to appeal your heart and mind.

My gift to you, a joy from me.
Is I trust a work that will survive,

You are a beautiful person.
Today, tomorrow and always.

Something New 10.07.07

Something New 10.07.07

Oh New York, city of lights, city of opportunity.
A weekend new of people, places and experiences.
Just three days, what can one do?

Park of the city, nightly view from above.
Drinks, smiles and sparkling shoes.
Just the start of something new.

Swords, statues and armor, left for another time.
History to be discovered.
So much more one can do.

The blues, shuffle, opera.
Pampering of one for two.
All something new.

Sacs on 5th.
Glee of just that 1/2. Priceless.
A joy that will last for two.

Past lives discussed.
Some things old and not forgotten,
but lessons for all that is new.

City of the world, people of the world.
Greek, Thai, Ethiopian. Foods of the world.
So much variety for two.

New friendships to last, this lifetime at least.
Words can not describe.
