Mac Printscreen

Link to this post

There are many things I’m coming to grip with on my new MacBook. One is missing buttons on the screen, like Page Up, Page Down and PrntSc.

Well I at least found out from Eric that I can get Print Screen with the following keyboard syntax.

Command-shift-4 then space then mouse click

iPhone bug

Link to this post

I discovered a bug on my iPhone. The issue was around Daylight saving. Thanks to Dock I was able to take screenshots which was much better then photos.

In Calendar when you select 1am on the scrollers, you get 1am as the start time. When you select 2am, the start time goes to 1am. When you select 3am, it goes to 3am as expected.

My Hacked iPhone

Link to this post

I installed Dock on my iPhone and it gave a very handy and wanted Screen Shot function. So now I can show my present iPhone screen. It looks like:

Apart from the obvious differences of different and more icons, I have by background behind icons, and I’ve turned off the text, so you need to know the icon means. Still, it’s wicked cool.

The Big Idea

Link to this post

There is a TV show I’m very much enjoying more when I get a chance. The Big Idea by Donny Deutsch.

I decided I wanted to what more episodes, but alas I can’t seem to find any episodes online. The only one I found was Joe Vitale on The Big Idea

Even this episode gives food for thought.

  • Know what you don’t want
  • Check your intentions
  • Get Clear
  • “Neverlize” your goal (feel like you have obtained your goal)
  • Let Go & Take Inspired action

In summary, Focus on your passion.

Thirteen Petals - 11.19.07

Thirteen Petals 11.19.07

A new petal blooms life
Beauty begins a new
Even the angels adore this creation

The dawn sunlight breaks through
As beauty meets the light
A wonderous sight becomes

Petals of pink catch your view
As morning dew drops shine
Brilliant rainbow colors surround

From towering mountains above
To streams rippling below
Petals adore the hillside

Petals
Petals here
Petals everywhere

As long shadows cast darkness
Thoughts of petals remain true
The beauty awaits it’s reintroduction

Before thoughts lost
Dawn draws again
Petals of wonder more beautiful

Again petals radiate beauty
A sight never a moment dull
Awe overflows

Petals of color
A kaleidoscope for the eye
A new view every day

As petals begin to wither
Coldness bites down
However beauty remains within

The circle of life begins
Petal buds sprout anew
Fields of color only too soon

Petals
Petals
Petals

No matter when or where
Dreams will always remain
Beauty is never lost my Petal

Giving a lasting gift this year

Link to this post

While talking with a friend last night regarding sponsor children (it’s a special thing when you visit your sponsor child in a developing country). The thought I had was to construct a website where people could sponsor a One Laptop Per Child for a child in a developing country. Would it not be a wonderful thing to be able to ship 1,000,000 computers (what I thought was the min order) to a country at no cost to them.

While I thought about all the logistics, the first part was to review if such an idea already existed. Well Laptop Giving does I feel the same thing (drat!). Until November 27, the promotion is actually Give One Get One. Your outlay is therefore twice, but in return you get one. I’ve followed this project for some time, and saw my first real one at the Ohio LinuxFest a few months ago, so I guess get one to play with, promote and show off myself.

Changing of the seasons

Link to this post

Diary: 19th Nov 2007

Today I woke to a wet morning, it looked like rain, but on closer inspection it was actually snowing, just melting when hitting the ground. This official marks the commencement of winter here, I’m hoping for a cold and snowy one.
In the past two weeks I’ve experienced the first 0C weather in Chicago (New York was also as cold), and in Cleveland similar weather, while in San Francisco a few days ago it was 20C and I was just wearing a tee-shirt and no jacket.

My MacBook

Link to this post

I arrived home last night at midnight from San Francisco to a pile of mail and a number of packages. My shiny new MacBook had arrived. It was rather ridiculous that I wanted a HDD upgrade and I could no buy it in the store. They come with 160GB and have only one upgrade option to 250GB.

Nevertheless, I’m now trying to familiarize myself with Mac OS/X 10.5 (Leopard) which is rather foreign as I’ve never used a MacBook before.

So what was my motivations? After Hacking my iPhone I wanted to do more, and even try and write an app, so I needed a Mac OS. I actually wanted a MacBook when I first joined MySQL last year, but my request was not approved (”You have to be able to run Windows” was the response, and yes I told them it can run windows).

Combined with a my Q3 Bonus, I just had to have one. This has been a number of significant purchases in recent months, an iPhone and a Canon 40D. All I need now is a girlfriend and my bank balance will be in more serious trouble.

New York Halloween Parade

Link to this post

Diary: Wed 31st October 2007

Today I stood in line, waited and watched the annual New York Halloween Parade from the corner of 12th Street and 6th Avenue. I think overall I was disappointed. While there were some great costumes, of which some I have photos, (it was very hard to get appropriate lighting) I was seeking a traditional American Halloween experience, and the parade was just one aspect. It was more a fancy dress party, and an excuse to show off, or be seen. I guess I need to find a more laid back safer smaller community to observe the true trick or treating next year.

Check out my photos at Halloween New York 2007

Pre Halloween Party

Link to this post

On a client site in New York this week, I was able to attend a Halloween office party. There were a number of good costumes, however my contact and his office room mate went rather hairy. Especially funny to see them mugging people who had no idea who they were!

Squeaky Feet

Link to this post

This week I was walking around and my boot was squeaking. Rather bizarre until I investigate further to find that the sole of my shoe had reached end of life.
This might explain last week in the rain when my sock was wet from within the shoe. I guess shopping time for more shoes, pity my favorite shoe shopper is leaving the country for vacation.

Dinner, Drinks and the new hot thing

Link to this post

Tonight I had dinner with my good friend Marc at Smorgas Chef - Scandinavian Restaurant at 282 W12th (W4th st) West Village.
It was a lovely dinner, three courses cheap before 7pm.

The best part was however my Hacked iPhone, which I had in my hand as I entered the restaurant (had to turn off my iPod). The waitress quickly noticed it wasn’t the same, and was all impressed when I explained it was hacked, had games and other programs on it. This became actually a point of topic with her more then once, she was very keen to know how. Later a part colleague of Marc’s was actually sitting next to us, another of his party was from Brazil and had an iPhone and was again most interested.

So, having a hacked iPhone and being able to show it off, might get the chicks interested after all.

Later we hit Good, a restaurant at 89 Greenwich Ave (7th & 8th av), for a quite drink at the bar which was also very lovely. A worthy place to try for dinner some time.
